Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25, 1994, is an American retired artistic gymnast. She was a two-time Olympian. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. She was awarded the gold medal in the team competitions during the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas as her teammate also received gold. Raisman also took silver in the individual all around and floor exercise. She is the third most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history, just behind Shannon Miller and Simone Biles who have won six Olympic medals.Raisman was also a part of the gold-winning American teams in the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the bronze medalist from the world championships in floor exercise in the year 2011. She also is the two-time champion of national floor exercise (2012,2015) as well as the national champion in 2012 of balance beam, and five times medalist at the national championships all-around (silver in 2016, and silver in 2011, 2012, 2012, and the year 2015). In 2013, she was inducted into International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on May 25, 1994, in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), who was a former gymnast at high school and Rick Raisman. Her younger siblings are Brett, Chloe, and Madison. Raisman is Jewish and has stated that "I take a lot off being able to not just represent the U.S.A but also the Jewish Community everywhere." Raisman started gymnastics at the age of 18 months. She credits her passion for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's group that won the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. The athlete trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8. She then transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club, where she was trained by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman has graduated from Needham High School, 2012, after finishing her senior year through online classes and training for the Olympics.
