ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born July 2nd, 1989 to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. Morgan was raised by her parents in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan was multisport throughout her childhood, however she first discovered soccer at 14. Morgan was a member of the Cypress Elite club team and won the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship. She also came in third place in the bracket for under-19 players. Morgan continued to improve her soccer abilities at Diamond Bar High School. Morgan was selected as an All-American Athlete by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Additionally, she played for states and regional divisions of the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Morgan continued her career in soccer in UC Berkeley. UC Berkeley. She led the California Golden Bears team's scoring during her first season. The team was able to reach the NCAA Tournament in four years, and the second round twice. Morgan was one of four finalists for the Honda Sports Award. This was the first time she was one of the Hermann Trophy finalists to be placed as the top player on the list. Following her graduation before the end of the year in 2010, Morgan was ranked third in all-time goals and points for Berkeley. Morgan was able to maintain soccer careers at the national and college levels during her time at Berkeley. Morgan was injured in her ACL the first time she played for Berkeley. This prevented her from playing in U.S. women's soccer under 20 until April of 2008. In Mexico, Morgan scored her debut international soccer goal at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also a part-time player in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. She scored four goals, which earned her team a gold medal. One of them was a win goal against Italy that secured the U.S. team a final spot at the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player of the team and was instrumental in helping to win the game against France. Morgan was the team's youngest player and led them to victory against Japan.
