Summer Bishil Bio

Summer Bishil was a Pasadena, California native. When she was just three years old, young, her family moved to the United States. Summer attended British and American schools during the time her family moved abroad. returning to her home town of Pasadena just short of her 14th birthday. In love with the idea of acting since when she was just five years old, Summer took her first acting class at the age of 14. Nine months later she signed with an agent and manager, and then began her acting career full-time. She is currently working towards her college degree in her spare time. The actress was named one of the "Ten Actors to Watch" by Variety (2007). Nominee for Best Actress – Spirit Award. Bishil began taking acting lessons at the age of 14. In just one year Bishil was offered an agreement by a manager or agency. The first time she appeared in the short-lived Nickelodeon show Just for Kicks, followed by appearances on other children's shows.Bishil's first big break came when she played the lead actress in Alan Ball's film Towelhead in 2007, a film adaptation of the novel of the same name. Dana Stevens, a Slate critic, stated that "Her performance in a film that , despite its noble intentions, is completely fake, mildly embarrassing, and like an extended PSA regarding inappropriate touching, is the most truthful thing." Bob Strauss, who writes for a variety of Los Angeles newspapers, states that Bishil, "...is one of the best natural actors to come out in years." Gary Goldstein, in a September 12, Los Angeles Times, review of Towelhead noted that Summer Bishil ("...newcomer) provides a compelling and stunning performance as Jasira. She filmed Wayne Kramer's Crossing Over project in 2009, starring Harrison Ford and Ray Liotta. Jay Reiner of the Associated Press liked her portrayal. She was selected to play Azula in M. Night Shyamalan’s film The Last Airbender (2010). The sequel was never released.
